Southern California offers the best ocean and beach hiking in the United States. The terrain consists of several mountain ranges, meadows, chaparral, groves of orchids, coastal marshes, and old homesteads containing fruit trees. Within its expansive borders, you will find one of the nation's most beautiful wildest landscapes. The presence of mountain batteries, fire rings, and other "historic" features only enhances the appeal. Within the Angeles National Forest, you are more likely to find groves of wild tomatoes than parks, and the forest's fruit trees display an amazing variety of colors, including brilliant reds, pinks, purples, and yellows.
The Angeles Forest is a rainforest with a difference: the rainforests of the Angeles National Forest are "functional" in the sense that they are adapted to their surroundings and not mimicking entirely too closely the natural environments. You'll find lizards, flying lemurs, large and small mammals, exotic birds, and several species of reptiles. Though the island sized park is about 450 acres in size, the forest contains thousands of trees and almost 2000 species of plants. Sprawling in the midst is one of the oldest brown oak trees in the world, and the historic Rosales Mill oneda, a copper mining dredge, rests in its hollow. In its time it has been used for blacksmithing and as a target for lookout points. You can almost hear the miners before you see them.
Eric Tardif says The Angeles National Forest is divided into four according to their stacking, or rather sliding, topography. Staircase Valley is located east of Mt. Wilson and North of Ubehebe Crater, just beyond the Painted Desert and Matagorda Bluff. It houses the endangered tree armadillo, the world's largest extinct tree. The armadillo is tiny, only about the size of a softball, and moves by rigid trunk and twisting vines. Its light weight and round head make it a target for hunters.
Staircase Valley and its siblings are not the only attractions. A bring of marine life experiences and scenic loops besides golfing, hiking, biking and fishing can be found throughout the Angeles National Forest.
Other than hitting the beach, Los Angeles offers a variety of attractions too. The Animal Encounter Park holds a variety of sea creatures native to the area, including ship crabs, octopus, garnet sharks, hard corals, giant mantas, leopard sharks and more. The similarly named Blue Aquarium is the largest aquarium in the world.
Nassau, Bahamas is a tropical paradise. The vacationer can find adventure in the sun in the spas and resorts, or explore the underwater caves, or even visit the mermaids and other sea creatures in the underwater city of colorful flowers. Other attractions include Pflugerville Square, Fun Park, and the Races of Long Beach Pride.
But the east coast is not without action. At Playa Del Carmen in Puerto Princesa, Palawan, you can join the history crowd by attending the Carpinteria communities and observing their food, dance, and musical choreography. Most of all, the city has a charm and beauty that makes it the ideal place to see how the other side of paradise culture is seen through the eyes of the native population.
In El Nido in the main part of Palawan, you can see amazing marine parks and sanctuaries. The popular belief in the protected areas held by the locals says that theilleranium, afrouminum, and pterocarpus grow in its waters. Aside from the recreational activities the parks offer, they also produce income through the services they offer to the tourists.
